Design Predictions for 2022

If you’ve followed our work here at Yond Interiors, you know that designing around trends isn’t typically in our wheelhouse. Instead, we lean heavily into natural materials, timeless quality, and crafting thoughtful homes that tell a story.

All that being said, our team makes a point to keep tabs on overarching movements within the industry, whether it’s an emerging style or new design feature we’re seeing at trade shows and markets. As we embark on exciting projects for the year ahead, we wanted to share which materials, colors, and wood tones you’ll see featured in our work and within the industry at large. Not to reveal any spoilers, but 2022 is shaping up to include some of our most exciting work yet.

STATEMENT STONE

Many of our upcoming projects for 2022 include the use of statement stones! While we love the understated nature of soapstone or Carrara marble, we’re always game to try something new. More and more Yond Interiors clients are loving stone with lots of movement and color, and you better believe we are here for it.

MATERIAL REMIX

No matter the trends, we believe Mother Nature wins out every time. We’ll always stay true to natural materials, but that doesn’t mean we won’t design outside the box. So much of our work is custom, and this year, we’re excited to combine materials in fresh new ways—hint, hint: fabric walls!

WALNUT WOOD TONES

Light wood tones have held the design spotlight for quite some time, but we are often drawn to wood tones of all varieties. We’ve been using walnut more than ever before, and can’t wait to see which other wood tones and species make their way to the market this year.

SUPPLY CHAIN DELAYS

As much as we’d love to report a more optimistic outlook, 2022 will likely see similar supply chain issues as the previous year. While we see a few product timelines improving, we are still seeing so many delays across the board. The industry continues to be pretty unpredictable, so we’re giving clients a clear heads up to expect delays that aren’t just weeks but months. Moral of the story: make plans for your next project well in advance.

Speaking of which, we’re currently booked through early summer, but if you’d like to get your name down for 2022, here’s your official nudge. We’d love to connect early on in the project with you!

ALL ABOUT OCHRE

We’re seeing the 2022 design trends involve lots of deep saturated colors and lots of ochre—so much ochre. We are excited to be doing a yellow kitchen in 2022 and cannot wait to debut something so fresh and fun. While it’s true that neutrals are timeless, we love the depth saturated color tones bring to a home.

FRESH PERSPECTIVE

Now more than ever, designers have the freedom to exercise their full creativity. The industry as a whole has become less about rules and more about personal storytelling through a space. The design world is ready for some fresh perspectives. I’m constantly amazed at what designers are capable of, and this year will be no exception.
