Round Top Recap

Stealing away for a few days of sourcing is always a treat, especially when it involves a trip to Round Top. With an expansive selection of vintage and antique home furnishings, Round Top Market is the interior designer mecca for endless one-of-a-kind treasures.

This season, our team set out on a three-day extravaganza as we hunted for furniture, rugs, art, accessories–you name it. The trip involved tons of searching to find the items that spoke to us, but we walked away with some amazing pieces to show for it. Below, we’re recapping our time at Round Top, or what we like to call “spring break,” interior designer style.

A Round Top Overview

Round Top is a vintage and antique home furnishings market in Round Top, Texas. The market is held twice a year and it has a little bit of everything. It’s largely home furnishing-related, but you can also find some great clothing and accessories.

While we’ve been on many other sourcing trips, this was our first Round Top experience and we had no idea what was ahead. We were surprised by the number of vendors that were spread out all over Round Top. We were lucky to have several Round Top insiders as friends who showed us the ropes along the way. Our team focused on the vendors with the best selection of European goods. We were there for a full three days and put every second to good use.

The Value of Sourcing Trips

Sourcing is the heart and soul of our work. It’s what makes our projects unique and special. We love these trips not only to find pieces for client projects but also because new inspiration can always be found. We noticed amazing millwork and cabinetry details that left us inspired for our next projects. Sourcing trips also allow us to connect with the greater design community, which is unbelievably valuable to all of our work and spirit.

Our Best Vintage Finds

On this trip, we were looking for it all! We scored a few fantastic pieces of furniture for clients, a few small pieces of art, and tons of accessories. Back home, we have a small inventory of items for future client projects, so we also restocked our accessories and purchased a few pieces we knew were too good to pass up.

One of our best scores was a few epic Maison Regain sideboards that need some love, but we cannot wait to restore. We also snagged some really special watercolors, several chair sets, and an heirloom-worthy sofa that we can’t wait to reimagine. Our team was also on the lookout for some Yond Cottage pieces, and we found a set of Rainer Daumiller pine dining chairs and a Guillerme et Chambron furniture piece for a bedroom.

Tips to Navigate Round Top

Our biggest Round Top takeaway was to go in with an open mind! We found so many awesome pieces that we were not necessarily on our list. Our team chose to go early and miss out on Marburger and the Big Red Barn in favor of getting to the vendors earlier for the cream of the crop. We would also highly recommend renting a car since the vendors are very spread apart.

Another key logistic to note is getting your purchases from A to B. Shipping was more difficult (and more expensive) than we originally anticipated. However, we realized the costs were not necessarily higher than some of our overseas vendors after doing some quick math. When all is said and done, the cost was more than worth it.
