Yond Cottage Bedroom Moodboards

The phrase “labor of love” perfectly captures the ongoing renovation process of our Minnesota North Woods cottage. We first began drawing up plans for Yond Cottage back in December 2021, reworking all 900 square feet of its footprint to better accommodate travelers as a luxury guest property. One of the most significant layout changes we made was going from three bedrooms to two. While a downsizing decision might seem counterintuitive, we are certain this was the right call for this space. Today, we’re taking you inside the final design plans for both Yond Cottage bedrooms and sharing more about how the new updated layout will work within the home. Let’s take a closer look.

As we considered the floorplan of Yond Cottage, a home we’ve lovingly nicknamed Innis, giving our guests a comfortable stay was priority number one. Whenever we design bedrooms for our clients, we want the space to feel like an escape, and that’s especially true of a vacation property.

The cottage originally had three bedrooms, but the square footage within each room wasn’t the most ideal. The decision to downsize to just two bedrooms allowed us to fit queen-size beds and resulted in the best overall sleeping and living arrangements for our guests. Another bonus? We were able to gain a larger bathroom, which is always a big win in our book.

As shown in our mood board, design plans for our first bedroom involve plenty of saturated neutrals, pattern play, and custom furniture. We’ll include bedside sconces to save nightstand space and style with the highest quality bed linens to give our guests luxe sleeping quarters. Think cottage-style, the Yond Interiors way.

The second Yond Cottage bedroom brings that same level of comfort and modern cottage style with its own distinct twist. We were really inspired by the rugged earth tones surrounding the property and wanted to lean into that within our color palette. A russet-colored rug lays the foundation for our second bedroom, juxtaposed with a deep olive green upholstered bed accented with a natural wood frame. Again, beautiful bed linens will be prioritized, and we'll certainly have some fun with pattern play in the mix.

Another key design feature we're bringing to both bedrooms is natural limewash. This wall treatment will cover the bedroom walls and ceilings to give them a more weathered and cozy feeling than standard drywall. We wanted each and every space within Yond cottage to feel special, warm, and inviting. Like you're worlds away from your everyday environment, yet feel entirely at home.

While the renovation is moving slower than we’d originally anticipated, we’re taking things in stride, knowing that quality and detail take time. The pace on the North Shore is considerably slower, and we’re learning to just appreciate the process. We’ll continue sharing updates as they happen, and you can always get the latest on our Instagram page. Look for booking details soon as we plan to welcome guests in early 2023.
